The Arizona Governor Brewer signed SB 1070.  This bill will create one type of America – an America where people are racially profiled, our fragile economic system is further damaged, and our neighborhoods are less safe because good people fear the police.   Many across the country see this bill as a precedent for other states and our nation.

We have a choice to make.  Will we live in an America that looks like the one created by this bill?  Or will we live in a country where 11 million American’s have a path to citizenship, children aren’t torn away from their parents, and police can protect our cities and neighborhoods because they have the trust of those living there.

Sign this petition to say you stand for the America and Arizona that values people and their families, the economy, and our public safety.

Whether she realizes it, when she signed the bill, Governor Brewer raised the urgency for comprehensive immigration reform, and created an opportunity to organize for better immigration policy.  This is the biggest story on television as thousands of people, young and old, have been gathering at the Arizona statehouse for the 24 hour vigil that’s been ongoing since the bill passed the state legislature last Monday – organized by people just like yourself.

When she signed the bill, that was not the end of our organizing, it was the beginning. Will you help us fight this bill in Arizona and continue to build the movement for better immigration policy?

Click here to sign this petition committing to stand with Arizona families as we fight against this bill and keep up the pressure on President Obama to lead on the immigration organizing.

We’ll take these petitions and deliver them to the President and leadership in Congress.  President Obama is paying attention — in response to the organizing and media attention, he said, “Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others,” Obama said. “And that includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threatened to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe.”

He couldn’t be more right – we must stop this in Arizona.  Similar legislation is already being considered in Ohio, Nevada, Virginia.  We need you.

Thank you,

— Rich, Petra, Jeff, Marissa, and all the immigration organizers across the country
